Bigfork, Lakeside & Somers: Life on the Lake

The communities along Flathead Lake represent some of the most coveted real estate in Montana. Bigfork on the northeast shore is known for its art galleries, live theater, and charming village atmosphere. Lakeside and Somers on the west shore offer quieter, residential living with stunning sunset views across the water. Together, these communities define the lake lifestyle of the Flathead Valley.

What These Communities Are Known For

Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. The lake defines the lifestyle here: boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, and simply living with water views. Bigfork has a vibrant summer season with the Bigfork Summer Playhouse (live theater since 1960), gallery walks, and dining that rivals Whitefish in quality. Lakeside and Somers are quieter, with a more residential character and access to the west shore's legendary sunsets.

Real Estate Market

The lake communities span a wide price range. Waterfront properties on Flathead Lake can range from $1 million to well over $5 million depending on frontage, views, and improvements. Off-water properties in Bigfork, Lakeside, and Somers are more accessible, offering mountain views, acreage, and proximity to the lake without the waterfront premium.

Golf course properties at Eagle Bend in Bigfork are popular with retirees and second-home buyers. Marina access is available at several points around the lake for buyers who want boat access without waterfront costs.
